A first-period hat trick by John Shortreed and aces by James Pace and Brandon Steele gave the JV Silver the momentum to carry through to a 9-6 victory over Southlake Sunday, beating the home team with 38 shots on goal.
Pace and Eric Alford each added singles in the second period and Connor Spencer topped the game off in the third with an assist by Pace.
Frisco's Gavin Alexander Pigman was stellar in the net, stopping 27 shots by Southlake as the JVS moved into a three-way tie for third place (8-5-3) in the standings with Southlake and Midlothian.
Frisco is scheduled to face Denton County JVS December 4.
Goalie Brett Buys chalked up his second shutout in as many starts Sunday as the Frisco JV Silver defeated the Highland Park Scots, 6-0.
Led by John Shortreed's hat trick, the boys in blue had a total of 44 shots on goal in the match at McKinney's Dr. Pepper Star Center's North rink.
Shortreed hit the net first just 27 seconds into the first period, followed by James Pace (05:49) and Brandon Steele (09:51). Jacob Barbaro lit up the lights at 2:10 into the second period with an unassisted goal. Shortreed scored his second at 09:49 and dotted the exclamation point with his final goal at 11:57 into the third period.
Buys deflected 16 shots on goal for the shutout.
Frisco meets Southlake JVS, Nov. 20 at 4:30p in Euless.
JV Silver defeated Mansfield Sunday, 4-1, behind strong goal-tending by Brett Buys and a tenacious Frisco offense that shot at the net 34 times.
John Shortreed scored twice and had two assists, leading all scorers.
Frisco drew first blood when Jacob Barbaro lit up the light at 3:13 into the first period. Jake Okleberry struck at 9:25 on a power play. Mansfield scored in the first, but it was all Frisco after that.
Shortreed scored twice in the third, including an empty-netter at 13:03.
Buys stopped seven of Mansfield's eight shots on goal.
Eric Alford and Jacob Barbaro each had an assist in the win.
JVS meets McKinney in a 6:15p start next Sunday, Oct. 23, at McKinney.
